How TapWizz works

What decides your card pick, where the card rules come from, and how to leave whenever you want.

In short
  • Card picks come from fixed rules, not from AI.
  • We never see or store your card numbers or bank logins.
  • You can cancel Plus and delete your account from your iPhone at any time.

1. How picks are made

Every card pick comes from a deterministic rules engine. It looks at the purchase category, which for store alerts and synced transactions comes from the merchant category code (MCC), then ranks the cards in your wallet by what a dollar of spending is worth: each card’s earn rate for that category times the value of its points. A given wallet and purchase give the same pick every time.

Ask Wizz, the in-app assistant, uses AI to answer questions about your cards and rewards. When it tells you which card to use, that pick comes from the same rules engine.

2. How card rules are checked and dated

Earn rates, annual fees and bonuses come from our card catalog. We check catalog cards against the issuer’s own pages and record the date of the last check with each card, so terms that haven’t been checked recently can be flagged as possibly out of date. Rates you enter yourself are labeled as yours.

When someone reports a wrong pick and we got it wrong, we fix the cause and log it on our corrections page. Always confirm current terms on the issuer’s site before you apply.

3. Who pays for TapWizz

No issuer, bank or advertiser pays to change what TapWizz recommends for the cards in your wallet. More in how TapWizz makes money.

4. Your bank and card details

We never see or store your card numbers, security codes or bank logins. You add cards by name.

If you choose to connect a bank account where that’s available, TapWizz never sees your bank login. Your bank signs you in through Plaid, read-only: we can read transactions to check picks, and we can’t move money. You can disconnect at any time.

5. Cancel Plus or delete your data

TapWizz Plus is billed by Apple. To cancel, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then TapWizz Plus. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews.

To delete your data, open TapWizz and go to Settings, then Delete account. This removes your account and the data tied to it, and disconnects any linked bank.
